Del Mar
Location: Del Mar is a charming community situated along the Pacific Ocean with some of the most beautiful beaches and weather you can find. The vistas from the bluffs above the shoreline provide breathtaking looks at the water, sand, surf and palms. It is the kind of place you read about! In the town’s center you will find various outdoor cafés where local businessmen sit and read the paper and couples meet for coffee before they begin their day. One building that has become a fixture in downtown Del Mar is an English Tudor, which has always had a café, and is located on the most prominent corner.
Shopping: The Del Mar Plaza has been around for about 15 years and is located just across from the English Tudor. The Plaza is very chic, hosting many upscale apparel shops for men and women. It also has delicious dining opportunities including the award winning Pacifica Del Mar, known for their unique seafood recipes. The custom homes that make up “Old Del Mar” are situated along the hillside above the beach and town’s center. Their location is ideal for San Diego County living. It is as if you are looking at a montage of genuine beauties.
Del Mar Fairgrounds: Often referred to as “where the turf meets the surf”, you will find the Del Mar Fairgrounds. This is because the fairgrounds are only 200 yards from the ocean’s inlet. The belated Bing Crosby was known for inviting his friends to watch the thoroughbred horseracing and play golf. Approximately 5 years ago the Del Mar’s clubhouse at the racetrack was completely renovated. The impression you get as you are approaching the club, from the beautiful landscaping and Spanish architecture, is that of a Spanish castle.
Schools: The schools here are excellent. Torrey Pines High School scores with California’s best public schools. Not far from Del Mar is the University of California San Diego. This school of higher education has earned an excellent reputation, especially in the areas of science. Also within commuting distance is San Diego State University, University of San Diego, California State University-San Marcos, California Western School of Law, UCSD Medical School, and many fine community colleges.
With a population of about 5,000 Del Mar seems to be more of a village than a city. It is a perfect place to live at any age. There is plenty to do if you like walks on the beach, surfing, competing in a polo match on a Sunday afternoon, or even taking a hot air balloon ride. This is America’s finest city with an ideal location and its ideal weather. The cost of housing is simply worth every penny.
